The rumors of Clinton’s demise as a candidate are greatly exagerated

Miss Hillary has dug herself out of the rubble after the media and pundits dropped the O-bomba on her campaign. Clearly she is quite banged up. But the defibrillator brought her campaign our of the grips of death and at least put it into intensive care. Speculation was abounding early last night on when she might bow out. However “kitchen-sink” approach seems to have worked for her. But it shows you just how far she will go to become the first lady President.
Allegations of “the wink” were not really based on fact… it was based upon interpretations of a Feb 9th meeting between Austan Goolsbee, the senior economic adviser to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, and Georges Rioux, consul general for the Canadian government. The interpretation being written in a meeting summary by a third individual, Joseph DeMora, a consulate staff member. No where in this summary was Goolsbee quoted. And the Canadian government has denied the interpretation.
Allegations of the Obama/Resko affair are also meaningless… unless one can find any unethical dealings between the two the relationship is a moot point.
And of course she accused Obama of plagerizing speeches yet the late-night phone call commercial she ran was obviously a re-make of the one Walter Mondale ran back in 1984. In fact both the Mondale and Clinton commercials were produced by the same person.
And then she waffled on whether or not she believed Obama was a Muslim… take a look at this exchange:
“You don’t believe that Senator Obama’s a Muslim?” Kroft asked Sen. Clinton.
“Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that. I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn’t any reason to doubt that,” she replied.
“You said you’d take Senator Obama at his word that he’s not…a Muslim. You don’t believe that he’s…,” Kroft said.
“No. No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know,” she said.
“It’s just scurrilous…?” Kroft inquired.
“Look, I have been the target of so many ridiculous rumors, that I have a great deal of sympathy for anybody who gets, you know, smeared with the kind of rumors that go on all the time,” Clinton said.
First she says “Of course not…” then she says “No. No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know…” Hmm… back-stepping against her firm stance just a few seconds previous. Sounds like she wants to build in some wiggle room and create doubt in the public mind.
All of these things I believe helped to push her into the “win” column last night… especially in Ohio and Texas. It seems that it was just enough to keep the Democratic primary race fueled for a while longer. And keep the pundits employed a few more weeks.
